Cycling on a Budget? Try Travelodge, Cheap Cycle-Friendly Accommodation
I set off on my Lands End to John O’Groats journey with a planned route and only 3 nights of pre-booked accommodation. Understanding the risks involved, I wanted an element of spontaneity and freedom. My strategy was to cycle and see where I got to each day without the pressure of having to make pre-booked accommodation. Looking back this strategy worked very well.
On three occasions I ended up staying in a Travelodge. each night cost me only £39.
Cheap LEJOG Hotel Accommodation
My early memories of Travel Lodge (now Travelodge) were prefabricated places to stay, thin walls, and generally not nice. I remember staying in one in Dumbarton many years ago and I have to say that it was awful. However, my opinion has now since changed and I have to say that there is not a lot to choose from between Premier Inn and Travelodge.
As a long-distance cyclist, a place to park your bike is important and Travelodge is cycle friendly. This means that bicycles can be placed in your room. With accessible lifts and wide doors, wheeling your bike to your room is easy.
The rooms are spacious, the beds are comfortable and each hotel served its purpose and more for me while cycling to John O’Groats.
What Makes Travelodge so Cycle Friendly
I found a number of key features that made my stay at the three Travelodges on my LEJOG ride so enjoyable.

Why are Travelodge Budget Hotels so Accessible to Cyclists?
I stayed in three modern Travelodges during my ride and each one was a modern, newly built hotel. Upon arriving at the front door, the journey to the reception area and finding my room, each time was seamless and easy. Each hotel had step-free access to reception, a very large lift, and wide corridors, This was all very helpful after a long day in the saddle cycling Lands End to John O’Groats. Bikes can be left in your room which means that there is no need to worry about it being nicked!
